TAIBU COMMUNITY HEALTH

RECIPIENT OF THE OUTSTANDING ORGANIZATION OR BUSINESS LEADER HERO AWARD
Throughout the pandemic, TAIBU Community Health Centre has provided culturally appropriate health services and community support to Scarborough residents. Located in Malvern, TAIBU serves Black Torontonians as well as Scarborough’s Indigenous and Francophone communities and assists, in English and French, community members with food security, income support, housing assistance, technological devices, internet capability, on-line educational resources, mental health support, referrals to isolation centres and a helpline that receives an average of 200 weekly calls. During COVID-19, TAIBU’s staff pivoted to providing client wellness calls and access to remote programming and support. TAIBU continues to offer weekly COVID-19 testing, promotes vaccine confidence initiatives in the Black community, advocates for an equitable response to COVID-19, and hosts a culturally safe community vaccination site.
